Cloburn single size chippings
Un-compacted Cloburn aggregates weigh 1.4 tonnes per cubic metre. Therefore if you wish to apply them at a 50mm depth (the normal depth for a driveway) one tonne will cover 14 square metres. For pedestrian pathways, 35mm is normally sufficient in which case 1 tonne will be sufficient to cover approximately 20 square metres.
Firechip is a 10mm graded product which is designed to be compacted. This can either be done with a roller or it will compact naturally over time under traffic. Compacted Firechip weighs 2 tonnes per cubic metre. The minimum recommended depth for vehicle traffic is 75mm which means that 1 tonne will cover 7 square metres. For pedestrian traffic 50mm deep is sufficient allowing 1 tonne to cover 10 square metres.
