Benefits of a gravel driveway
Gravel driveways not only come with the benefits of generally being low maintenance & cheaper to install than other options. Gravel driveways add an element of security to your home, by helping to deter unwanted guests. As recommended by Age UK & Merseyside Police one of their crime prevention measures is to install a gravel driveway if you can.
Purchasing gravel for your driveway can be a bit daunting at first, especially if you’ve never done it before. First things first, gravel comes in different sizes, and we are here to help you with the best options when choosing the gravel for your driveway.
What size is best for your gravel driveway?
- Our 20mm Red Granite would be an ideal choice for your gravel driveway. 20mm grain is commonly used for gravel driveways, due to the size of the gravel its not likely to get caught in the treads of the tires. Our 20mm red gravel is robust and will last many years being driven over and walked on repeatedly. We wouldn’t advise using gravel that is over 20mm for your driveway as this can pose a potential hazard that might be flicked up by the cars as they drive over the surface.
- We also offer 14mm Red Granite. This is slightly smaller than the 20mm and can be a great choice for walkways. It can also be used for driveways. You can even use a 50/50 mix of the 20mm and 14mm to get the best surface for your gravel driveway.
- The 10mm Red Granite we stock is commonly used for gravel walkways. Again, just like the example above, you could use a 14mm as more of a base and then cover the top with the 10mm to give you a great walkway surface.
If your unsure on what size would be best to suit your red gravel driveway, we offer Free Samples of all our red gravel, including grain sizes of 6mm, 10mm, 14mm, 20mm and our Firechip, Cresta & Granitsand.
